How was man created?
Genesis 2:7  And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 

DUST + BREATH = Living Soul (Man)

What is the reverse process when breath is gone or when a person dies?
Psalms 104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Job 34:14, 15  If he set his heart upon man, [if] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

LIVING SOUL (MAN) – BREATH = DUST (dead body)

So when breath is gone from man, or when man dies, what remains is DUST.

Can a soul (man) die?
Ezekiel 18:20      The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

When man dies, what is left?
Genesis 3:19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return.  

 

What returns to God?
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Only the spirit or breath returns to God, not the living soul himself as most people believe.

What goes forth when man dies?
Psalms 146:4       His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

 How much does a dead man know?
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

What happens to his feelings and emotions?
Ecclesiastes 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun.

What happens to his thoughts?
Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

 When a man dies, where does he go?
Job 21:32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

He does not roam around anywhere but go to the grave where he belongs

Where did Jesus say the dead are?
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 

Can a dead person visit his loved ones?
Job 7:8-10 The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no [more]: thine eyes [are] upon me, and I [am] not.   [As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. 

Where is David now? Is he in heaven?
Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Acts 13:36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven. 

What word did Jesus use to describe his friend Lazarus was dead?
John 11:11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

How did David refer to his death?
Psalms 13:3 Consider [and] hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the [sleep of] death;

What words did Paul use to say about those who are already dead?
1 Corinthians 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Can a dead man praise the Lord?
Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

Can the dead man thank God or remember Him?
Psalms 6:5 For in death [there is] no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

What should we do while we are still alive?
Psalms 146:2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

If we have not learned to love the truth while we are still alive, can we get it in heaven?
Isaiah 38:18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can [not] celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

Why is it important to obey the Lord now?
Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

You cannot do anything for God in the grave. Today is the day to obey the Lord for you cannot obey Him in the grave.

When a man dies, where does he go?
Job 21:32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

Where do the dead wait?
 Job 17:13 If I wait, the grave [is] mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.

The dead wait in the grave until when?
Job 14:13  O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

When the wrath of God is over with, the dead in the grave will be awaken.

The wrath of God is the 7 last plagues which we will study later.

What did God promise to those in the grave?
Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

God did promise to ransom and redeem those who are in the grave.

At what event will they that are Christ’s be made alive according to His promise?
1 Corinthians 15:22, 23 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 

At Christ’s coming, the dead will be made alive according to the promise.

Through whom will the dead be made alive?
1 Corinthians 15:21, 22 For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Only through Christ will the dead be made alive.

How will God awaken the dead?
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

What are the two general classes of resurrection?
Acts 24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Who will rise first or who will be resurrected first?
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

 What is the condition of the body of these resurrected saints?
1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 So also [is] the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:  It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 

Luke 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. 

The human body we have right now is corruptible but when it will be raised, if worthy of heaven, it will be incorruptible. 

What happens after they are resurrected?
1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

We will be caught up into the clouds to meet Jesus Christ in the air.

When are the unjust be resurrected?
Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.

What will happen to them?
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 

Where will the righteous be found?
Matthew 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

How long will they be permitted to live?
Luke 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
