QUESTION: Is fortune-telling approved by God?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortune-telling
https://www.studylight.org/dictionaries/eng/hdb/m/magic-divination-and-sorcery.html
To better understand this, let’s begin with definition of terms.
What is Fortune telling?
- is a subset (part of another, larger set) of divination, and pertains specifically to understanding future events or outcomes
- predicting information about a person's life
What is Divination?
- is a more general category which seeks information about anything which is unknown.
- the use of occult (supernatural, magical) practices to “divine” knowledge which is unknown to the person asking the question
The scope of fortune telling is in principle identical with the practice of divination.
What are some examples of questions being asked from a fortune teller?
How can I become rich?
What zodiac sign matches mine?
When am I getting married?
What does my future hold?
All questions refer to something unknown or of the future.
What are most common examples of Fortune-telling or Divination methods:
Tarot Reading - this fortune telling method revolves around the aspect of playing cards, helping to know the inside of an individual’s life
Palm Reading - this method revolves around the reading of an individual’s hand in order to evaluate his/her future life
Crystal Ball Reading - a method of fortune-telling that uses crystal balls seeing shapes and forming ideas
Ouija boards - Also known as a “spirit board” or “talking board,” with letters and numbers and the words “yes” and “no.”; used to attain answers by connecting with the dead
Necromancy - the method of communicating either by raising the dead body or by summoning their spirit. This kind of fortune telling is also known as ‘Witchcraft or Black Magic’, noted as the most dangerous fortune telling method
Signs and Omens - is the interpretation of good or bad events; wishing good luck
Astrology - type of divination that involves the forecasting of earthly and human events through the observation and interpretation of the fixed stars, the Sun, the Moon, and the planets; the most famous and probably the most widely practiced method
What is the most current example of this? Of observing planets, comets and asteroids?
We learned from different media sources about a Comet or a shooting star being named as Encke, predicted to hit earth in 2030 and believed to have global catastrophic impact.
This Comet Encke is also being echoed by other denominations as if time setting for the end of the
world, or to mirror the 2nd coming of Jesus.
Where else have we heard about this Encke? One of the messengers (pastor) of the magicians actively promiting this idea that a comet is going to hit Earth is Nicholas of the SDR Church.
Comet Encke is also a story in the book by Graham Hancock, “Magicians of the Gods” which classified to be as non-fiction book, or writings based on “facts”, real events, and real people. Quoting “These Magicians left a message for us – not a metaphorical, spiritual message, but a direct and urgent warning, what happened before can happen again; what destroyed their world can destroy others.”
This is insinuating that there are other higher powers apart from God who can forewarn the people about something that can happen in the near future.
But who is Graham Hancock?
Graham Hancock is a British writer and journalist. He is known for his pseudoscientific theories
involving ancient civilizations, Earth changes, stone monuments or megaliths, altered states of
consciousness, ancient myths and astronomical or astrological data from the past.
Aside from his book Magicians of the Gods, let’s see what his other books are:
Supernatural: Meetings with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind
War God: Return of the Plumed (Ploomed) Serpent
The Sign and The Seal: The Quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant
Coming from all this information, are we supposed to believe and preach based on “theories,
myths and astrological data” rather than God’s pure truth?
Are we supposed to echo these kinds of writings knowing that the Bible tells us otherwise?
Are we supposed to echo time settings of 2030 or 2033 of the world’s destruction knowing that it
clearly contradicts the Bible?
Let’s see more of where the idea of this Encke came from…
Is it Comet Encke or the Sumerian pagan god Enki? Is the name just coincidence?
Quoting from an article which speaks about the language used in describing Encke being mirrored as Jesus.
And we quote, “In the ancient Akkadian language of the Sumerians, “En” means LORD or High Priest and “Ki” means Earth. Enki means Lord or Priest of the Earth. That sounds like or seems to point toward the Order of Melchizedek, the Cosmic Priesthood. Further it says, “The coming of Comet Encke into our Solar System, seems to be pointing toward the Return of the ancient Gods, the coming of Enki. Could Enki be the same God, Messiah, that all the ancient religions are looking for, but is call by different names? Comet Encke won’t be seen again until year 2030.
Lastly it says, Comet Encke is now traveling through the constellation of LEO the Lion, coming closer to earth. Who is the One called the Lion of the tribe of Judah? Is it not Jesus, the High Priest of an everlasting covenant, forever after the Order of Melchizedek, the undying Priesthood?
So do you think this is just coincidence on how this Comet Encke is put together to be believed by people to be a natural solar phenomenon?
Let’s know more about who this pagan, Sumerian god Enki is and we can tell that this is not coincidence.
So who is Enki?
Enki (also known as Ea, Enkig, Nudimmud, Ninsiku) was the Sumerian god of wisdom, trickery and mischief, crafts, magic and incantations, exorcism, healing, creation, virility, fertility, and art who resides in the ocean under the earth.
But is Enki just the pagan Sumerian God?
Enki-EA-Anunnaki among others are also other names for Satan.
Satan hiding in all these names clearly tells us how an imposter he is.
Now let’s see what the other apostate churches such as SDR have to say about this Enki claiming to have biblical prophetic relevance.
Let’s listen to an audio recording from Nicholas Patula quoting Enki’s coming.
So if there is Encke, there’s also Asteroid Apophis, predicted to hit earth in 2029 and many more comets being told to pass the earth or zooming toward the sun. Isn’t it confusion?
So who is this Apophis?
According to Britannica, Apophis, is the ancient Egyptian demon of chaos, who had the form of a
serpent and, as the foe of the “sun god”, Re, represented all that was outside the ordered cosmos;
symbolizing evil.
According to world history, Apophis (also known as Apep) is the “Great Serpent”, enemy of the sun god Ra, in ancient Egyptian religion. Who does a serpent represent? Is it not also Satan? These foretellings indeed are chaotic as it is. All pointing to Satan.
In the book of Daniel, the royal magicians and astrologers of the Babylonian court whom King
Nebuchadnezzar inquired about his dream were put to shame and were proved to be powerless
to reveal his dream and its meaning.
Only Daniel, who sought God’s wisdom was able to interpret the dream, we read;
Daniel 2:10-11The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can
shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any
magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
11And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the
king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
Daniel 2:27-28 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded
cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; 28but
there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar
what shall be in the latter days.
A lot of people are fascinated with fortune-telling and these other false practices because they’re trying to bring certainty to their lives by foreseeing what awaits for them in the future. These false practices offer direction without making any demands on our character. They promise information without requiring the hardwork of submission to God and the acceptance of His laws in their hearts. The bible tells us of this time when people will seek to hear what they want to hear;
2 Timothy 4: 3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall
they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears
4and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Our future is NOT dictated by chance or luck encounters, wishful thinking, or how the stars are lining up in our favor. God sternly warned us not to partake in these things because these are forms of idolatry and God calls them abomination.
To further support God’s prohibition and condemnation of these things, let’s read witnesses from
the bible, both in old and new testament starting with Deuteronomy 18:10-14 which contains
most of the family of these practices.
Deuteronomy 18:10-14 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through
the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
14For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto
diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
What is abomination? According to Strong’s Concordance 08441 in Hebrew; it is a disgusting thing, unclean, idols, mixed marriages and wickedness.
Let’s have more supports from the Bible where God is forbidding us in participating in these false
beliefs.
Leviticus 19:31Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I
am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
God takes witchcraft very seriously. The penalty for practicing witchcraft in the law of Moses was death.
Leviticus 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
In the New Testament, we can find the same warnings from God.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
There are only two sources of spiritual power: God and Satan but Satan only has the power that God allows him to have. And to seek spirituality, knowledge, or power apart from God is idolatry, closely related to witchcraft.
1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
And all forms of Witchcraft, divination or fortune-telling is Satan’s realm, and he excels in counterfeiting what God does. These are all lies, and lie is Satan’s native language.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
While there may be some things that God chose to keep from us, we also understand and know that God already revealed to us in the Bible what we needed to know.
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Prophet Isaiah also reminded us not to try finding out the future by consulting witches and mediums and therefore asked, should not a people seek unto their God?
Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
Saul also died because he was unfaithful to God; he did not keep the word of God and even consulted a medium for guidance.
1 Chronicles 10:13-14 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
14and enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
For the Bible, God’s holy word is to be our guide and our final authority of truth.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
We must remember that Truth is not something we invent; only something we can discover.
God reveals it to us in His Word.
Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; And all his works are done in truth.
